Introduction to Cannabis in Veterinary Medicine: (length 60 min-3 hours)
Discussion of the cannabis plant including the history of the plant, definition of common cannabis terminology, explanation of the endocannabinoid system, specifically the components of it and how it functions within the body. Will also review the difference between endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids, and the importance of terpenes and flavonoids. Lastly, we will examine important publications (both human and veterinary) as well as delve into some clinically relevant applications including dosing, delivery and potential toxicities and contraindications. If time permits, we can also review the legal environment of cannabis in veterinary medicine.
Incorporating Cannabis in Veterinary Medicine: (length ~1 hour)
Discuss an algorithm of deciding which cases are suitable for cannabis treatment, how to get started with treatment including dosing parameters, delivery methods, drug interaction, and contraindications as well as product selection.
Cannabis in the Cancer Patient (length ~ 1 hour)
Discuss the up to date data in human and animal patients (in vivo and in vitro) and the multitude of ways that cannabis can be included in the oncological patients treatment plan.
